When it comes to school holidays in autumn, you want to go somewhere where you still can feel the summer and enjoy an active but still a relaxing holiday as a family. We spent five blissful days in Winkler Hotel in South Tyrol, the former small and traditional hotel, that has been rebuilt to a contemporary luxury standard, that sits in acres of ancient countryside surrounded by the mountains and fields grazed by sheep and cows. The hotel is run charmingly by family Winkler who has four hotels in the area → Link.
As much as I would like to keep my story down to earth, I cannot help but call Winkler Hotel excellent and ultra-family-friendly. With a focus on spa, sport and family, it has so much to offer to everyone and probably, therefore can host a nice diversity of people. We saw elderly people travelling alone and in small groups, sporty people, hikers and e-bikers, and very young couples on a romantic vacation, and of course a lot of families with children of different ages. Apart from everything excellent, the food and service, the rooms and spectacular panoramas, the pools and spa areas, the hotel has an incredible easygoing vibe. This what personally surprised us, how easy our holiday at Winkler went.
For kids and teens it’s a real paradise, especially since they can take advantage of the whole range of activities at the Winkler hotel. It was very uncomplicated to arrange childcare for our 2 children. It was restricted for children younger than 3 years old, but the lady was so attentive and accepted our 2-year-old in the same group with her 7-year-old sister. They absolutely loved spending time at the Mini Club enjoying their new friends and the programme provided for them. It gave us (me and my husband) enough time for flattering out in the spa, relaxing and soaking in water in a blissful environment with a truly stunning view over the Alps. We even could have quiet dinners without our loves but with a glass of great wine and delicious yummies.
We also spent a lot of time as a family. Maybe that`s why we didn`t feel like doing much but just enjoying the hotel and everything it has to offer. One day, however, we dedicated to one of the most popular places in the area and drove (35 min by car) to Pragser Wildsee which was absolutely amazing. Just to mention, the surrounding area is stunning and offers so many local attractions like castles, little villages and the mountains, there is so much you can do, which is also what makes the Winkler hotel truly the best-value destination.
