Family weekend in Davos-Klosters

Summer has officially begun in Switzerland and we, determined to get the most out of the rainy summer days, headed to a family weekend in Davos-Klosters in Graubünden (Link). Although the summer season would start just in one week here and more activities would be available only then, our days were packed with little adventures. We did hike, sledge, ride the historical train, play on public playgrounds and even swim and visite a museum!

Mit der Familie in Davos-Klosters

The fact that Davos is not a village but a city with a long international history makes this place look and feel very special. We stayed at Youthpalace, which is situated on top of the hill from where you can see the whole Davos and the surrounding mountains. We loved that our windows were facing Hotel Intercontinental on one side and a little farm on the other.

The first thing we did was the Schatzalp, which was easy to reach by the Schatzalpbahn directly from the city. Besides a lovely view over Davos, the summer toboggan was a real highlight for us as a family. We had so much fun! After lunch, we took the historical train from Davos to Filisur and back. Travelling in the 100-year-old carriages and seeing the breathtaking mountainsides from the windows reminded us of the Heidi story that we all so much love.

The next day we decided to go for a hike in the Sertig valley, which is around 15 min drive by a car or a public bus.  We took an easy walk along the river up to the waterfall, enjoying a magical mountain scenery and playing with found stones on the way. And in the afternoon we went to see the Kirchner Museum to discover a bit more about the history of Davos.

Our last day we spend in Klosters, which is a more typical mountain village, authentic and very charming. We took a nice walk over Höhenweg to the cute hanging bridge that we discovered on the way. But the kids were a bit disappointed that Madrisa Land was yet closed, so we decided to take them to the outdoor pool at Arena Strandbad. The water in pools was heated to 23C, just great enough to swim and play in the water in the middle of the mountains all day long.
