Therefore we write our Christmas cards by hand

How do you usually send your Christmas wishes? Via E-mail, or a chat or maybe a postcard or a letter? We typically make our own Christmas cards and sent them to around 50-70 people (and this year we will be sending them also to you, read below). Our families are tiny, so those people are old friends and colleagues. Sending Chrismas cards for us is a way to stay in touch with people we love and to show them that we think about them and they are always in our hearts. Plus making the cards is a fantastic pre-Christmas activity that gets the whole family involved, especially for the children, they really love it. It`s also a great way to build a family tradition. Therefore we would like to share with you one of our “Merry Chrismas and a Happy New Year” handmade card ideas and maybe this one too can turn into your favourite Chrismas tradition.

  1. Make the letter paper.

Do what you feel, get into Christmas mood and share everything you want with your family and friends. Cut out pictures, shapes, use metallic tinsel foil or fir tree branches. Make it quirky or keep it traditional, it`s your own unique Christmas theme!

  • place the regular white paper in the feeder
  • cut out a paper snowflake and place it on the glass pane (see on the picture), you will need it for writing your Chrisman wishes
  • layer after layer place the rest of your Christmas material on the glass pane (face down)
  • slightly press and hold the top plane while printing the paper
  1.  Write words.

Less is more! At least this is how we think when we write our Christmas cards. The most important for us is that the cards are written by hand and address something personal to each recipient. To add a little extra sparkle to the written words, we use different glitter pencils.

  1. Send out the cards.

Fold the card according to your envelope size. Now, we just have to close the envelopes, put the stamps and.., write the addresses. Maybe this one is the most boring part of our DIY activity, but it easily can be turned into something special. So we (my husband and I) usually do it late in the evening with a glass of wine and a conversation.

By the way, since we really would like to stay in touch with our readers and followers on a more personal level, we would love to send you our Christmas greetings too.

Until 10th December, send us your name and address on info (at) familyfirst.ch and write us three reasons why people should be writing handwritten letters. If you are running out of ideas, hop to the project by Swiss Post (Link) or check #reasons2write hashtag on the Social Media, you will find a lot of inspiring ideas.

Christmas is about spending time with family and friends. It’s about creating happy memories that will last a lifetime. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
