A lot of children are picky when it comes to eating. My 6yo daughter was never a good eater. It’s been frustrating seeing her poking the food around her plate literally at every meal. I had tried everything to make her like different foods until I learned to say: “She’s just not hungry right now.” I realised that she still can catch up on needed nutrients and get enough energy in between meals. Since then, snacks for me have become a big part of my kid’s healthy diet.
Most of the snacks I give my kids are those that I feel good about. I usually prepare a mix of different finger-food veggies and fruits, nuts, seeds and milk products. Snacks are great to eat at home or take away. Pop them in a snack box and eat on the go! Sometimes it`s just easier for children to try different foods without feeling pressure eating at the family table. Kids also like to eat food that they can take everywhere, eat on their own and even share with their friends.
It’s important to encourage children to eat different dairy products every day because it’s essential for building healthy bones. My snacks always include yoghurt, cheese or Danonino. Kids love Danonino. It is gluten-free and doesn’t contain any preservatives or Gelatine, and it’s so delicious to eat!
My tip, always try to use your kid’s appetite to your advantage to introduce a new food. Even a couple of bites of the healthy food today will make them discover new tastes and help them actually like it long-term.
