I don’t really remember, I was probably 13yo when I saw the Dove TV commercial for the first time. As a child (and a little girl), I was fascinated to see different women of different races, ages and forms celebrating their difference and the beauty of being a woman. This image stuck in my mind forever and now, decades later, I am invited to telling my story for the new Dove Body Lotion campaign and I am so proud. Dove believes that beauty is more than just external appearance, and I would say, the beauty is how you feel about yourself.
I was never a slim person so I always worried about gaining weight, especially gaining too much weight during pregnancy. To my surprise, being pregnant (both times) turned out to be the most incredible thing I have ever experienced in my life. My hair got thicker, my nails got stronger and my skin changed from dry to normal. I didn’t need to keep any diet because my weight was average and I could enjoy a lot of different foods including a lot of sweets. I felt absolutely amazing and loved my body more than ever. But after giving birth, I was shocked how my body looked. I had a tough time accepting my “new” me. It took me at least three years to get my body back from my first pregnancy, and there are some of the lessons I’ve learned along the way. You’re not going to just drop your baby weight and heal your C-section incision overnight. And if do want to change something about yourself, you will have to start doing it. Start loving your mama`s body, do sports and eat healthily, treat it with lotions and massages. Find your own way to connect with your new body because you have the power to create the body and life that you want for yourself.
Right now my second daughter is 2,5yod, I’m seven years older and 8 kilos heavier, but I finally feel at peace with myself and my body. I have learned to embrace my new “me” and my family was my reward and blessing. Now, when I look at myself in the mirror, I’m enjoying how much I have changed and how far I have gone. Being happy and healthy that is all that matters.
